IDLE FREE INITIATIVE AT SCHOOLS
We at PikMyKid support and provide the right tools for 'Idle Free Initiatives' in schools across the country. We owe it to our children to minimize their exposure to harmful exhaust fumes every day during dismissal.
PURPOSE
As a part of this initiative, we intend to reduce student and driver exposure to vehicle exhaust by limiting unnecessary idling of school buses and other vehicles to improve the health of students and others on the school campus.
RATIONALE
Exhaust from idling school buses, delivery, and personal vehicles can accumulate and pose a health risk to children, drivers and the community at large. Exposure to exhaust can cause lung damage, respiratory problems and exacerbate asthma and existing allergies; long-term exposure is thought to increase the risk of lung cancer. Automobile exhaust leads to ground-level ozone formation, acid rain, and other forms of air pollution.
APPLICABILITY
All schools using school buses and carline pickups during daily dismissals are susceptible to idling pollution. Young kids waiting outside schools during dismissals are most at risk.
